What Makes Special Education Dynamic

As I reflect back on my career as a Special Educator I am grateful to God for the blessing of His call upon my life to serve in this capacity. As Special Educators we are masters of differentiating instruction, accommodating curriculum and modifiying behavior. We are to teach what others lable as difficult or even unteachable. We are to take a child that has experienced failure within the traditional academic setting and guide him to the sweet taste of success. Believe in that child and watch him feed off of our belief and in-turn believe in himself. Meet with his family and inspire hope where there previously was grief and despair. Making a difference in the life of a child and showing him how dynamic his life can be is what truly makes Special Education, "Dynamic."

  1. Wow. That sounds more like a mission statement than a simple blog post.

I look forward to seeing future thoughts/blog posts on teaching special ed.

  2. Hey Stephen, Yes I am commenting, I am not rude!
Now to be serious, you have a really good outlook on what special education is all about. Actually what all education is about. A lot of the times if main stream teachers understood as much as special educators than a lot of students would be way more successful.
